More often than not, the most mundane exchanges can sometimes turn out to be the trickiest ones. There are fixed phrases and common sentences that even today’s coursebooks rarely teach. We will look into the language of a variety of everyday situations: what you may hear and could say at the supermarket, the hotel, the airport, etc. There will be a few spotlights on business situations as well: email writing, making appointments, diplomacy and formality, speaking about developments.
By the way, in English, “mundane” is not “mondän.” That’s why there should be a spotlight on “false friends” too. These nasty little fellows can throw an entire exchange “off track.” And to keep you “on track,” we will also take a look at examples of figurative language.
The weeklong course will be very interactive and communicative; we will not spend the whole week on grammar and vocabulary drills.
The main focus will be on giving you greater confidence in English. Learn strategies to “survive” difficult situations in which you don’t seem to have all the words you need.
The course is ideal for learners at a pre-intermediate and intermediate level who want to improve their English skills for a great variety of everyday situations.
